“No, I don’t know how they plan to get the gold nuggets out in Money Heist,” said Dr. Hanee Farzana Hizaddin @hanee057 from the Department of Chemical Engineering @engineering.um with a wry smile when asked if her custom made solvents can pull out gold molecules out of the sewage.

Since 2012, Dr. Hanee and her team, guided by Prof. Emeritus Ir. Dr. Mohd. Ali Hashim, has developed numerous ionic solvents for industrial needs, from removing specific contaminants in palm oil, to producing ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel.

This beautiful mother of two is also part of the multidisciplinary research team that secured Malaysia’s Research University Network (MRUN) RM250,000 research grant in 2019 to study ways to remove heavy metals from mangroves in Pulau Carey, affected by the affluent from industrial sites surrounding the area.

Contact this Klang-born at hanee@um.edu.my if you think you can convince her to use her solvent designing specialty to help get the gold out in Money Heist Vol. 3 😎

Just don’t forget to belanja her favourites: roti canai and a hot latte ☕ ya?
