Dr. Khor, or Naomi to those close to her, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya.

She and her team specialises in developing biosensors using specific cell biomarkers. Together they have developed a number of biosensors, including the detection of breast cancer, diabetes, dengue, and prediction of heart attack. Interestingly, they also developed specialised sensors to detect carcinogenic (cancer-causing) compounds in food, e.g. acrylamide in highly-processed foods and chloropropanols in soy sauce.

Drop her an email at naomikhor@um.edu.my if you have original ideas on developing a new type of biosensor, or you just want to know her experience growing up in Penang, ya?
